Life (2017)

Life Poster

I’ll admit that it’s taken me almost a week to sit down and write out my thoughts on this movie.

Usually I get home and the first thing I want to do is spill my mind online, but this film just left me feeling a little empty inside.

I wouldn’t say it was a HUGE disappointment because if I’m being honest, I kind of just thought of this film as a warm up for the release of Alien, but STILL I was expecting something a little bit better than this slop that I’d been served …

I’m sure many of you have seen the sneak peek trailer (if not, you can check it out below). This is literally the highlight of the entire film, after the first 15 minutes it turns into a complete borefest.

I love Sci-Fi movies, but I don’t love to be made to feel like an idiot, and that’s kind of how I felt watching this film. It was sooooo predictable it hurt me.

Just regurgitated bits of story mixed with half hearted performances from extremely talented actors.

The story is pretty simple – bunch of scientists on the international space station find a new and exciting life form that they believe wiped out the whole of Mars. One thing leads to another and it could be them (AND EARTH) that are in big trouble next.

Nothing unheard of, but the potential was there to make this a little more thrilling than it actually was and in my opinion it was a crying shame.

As I mentioned before, the first 10-15 minutes were pretty interesting and I was ready to sit back and be entertained.

Then that time passed and it was snoozeville for the remaining hour and a half.

Ryan Reynolds was a shining light and bought his humour and charm. Jake Gyllenhaal showed us a slice of his intense eye acting. Seriously though, those eyes are a gift …

Ariyon Bakare and Rebecca Ferguson were new to me, I’d never seen them on screen before – but their performances were okay if not a little forgettable.

Listen guys I’m not mad, I’m just really, really disappointed.

I am positive that people will watch this and love it – but to me it was a cheap imitation of previous hits and if I’m being honest, I’d rather watch the originals.

If you’re reading this and you have seen it I would love to know what your thoughts are, because it still has a pretty strong 7.1 on IMDB so there must be fans out there somewhere.

Despite all my hating I’m giving this a 5/10 and I think that rating pretty much sums up it’s mediocrity.

Excuse me whilst I pop off and watch the Alien:Covenant trailer for the 100th time …
