A Year in Movies: 1990

Guys I’ve had an idea …

There are sooo many films on my watch list and I never, ever know which one to go for next, so I come up with something to help me make these tough decisions.

‘What’s the plan Emma?’ I hear you ask … WELL it’s simple! I’m going to pick a year, check out all of the movie releases that come out and work my way through them. The aim is to eventually whittle everything down (she says with fingers crossed).

I’m a nineties baby so thought that would be a good place to start, 1990 to be precise and it actually turns out I’ve already seen 19 of the releases (I’m not too sure if this is a respectable number or completely shameful?)

Ranking The Movies I’ve Seen

desperate-hours19) Desperate Hours – Anthony Hopkins might be my favourite actor, but this sure is a crap film. 1/10

Tim Curry IT

18) IT – I love Tim Curry but I don’t love this film. I thought the remake was fantastic, but this has always been terrible. 2/10

Days of thunder

17)Days of Thunder – As soon as this film ended I completely forgot what it was about. 2/10

The Witches.jpg

16) The Witches – Luke and his grandma are so unbearable in this film but little, mousey Bruno makes it OK. 3/10

arachnophobia-11

15) Arachnophobia – I used to really like this movie, but hey times change. One thing that remains the same though is spiders are scary as shit!! 4/10

gremlins 2

14) Gremlins 2: The New Batch – I mean Christopher Lee talking to a Gremlin .. HELLO! 6/10

die hard 2

13) Die Hard 2 – The Die Hard Franchise is fantastic, but for some reason I’ve never enjoyed this one as much as 1 or 3. 6/10

Mermaids 1990

12) Mermaids –  Just Cute. 6/10

Ghost

8) Ghost – It’s all about Whoopi! 7/10

Pretty Woman

4) Pretty Woman – I’ve never seen the attraction to Richard Gere, but Julia Roberts is out of the world in this … 8/10

Awakenings

3) Awakenings – I watched this film recently and I had no idea how sad it was going to be. One of the best performances I’ve ever seen Robert De Niro give.  8/10

home-alone-joe-pesci-reelgood

2) Home Alone – The perfect Christmas movie and it never, ever gets old. 10/10

goodfellas

1) Goodfellas –  This is one of the best movies ever made. The End. 10/10

Looking through there isn’t really much competition. Only four of the films I rated were an 8 or above, so I’ll need to branch out and hopefully find a few more treats.

So now to the watching part …

I’ve gone ahead and put together a list of films I’m going to watch through and it would be great if you could see if there’s anything I’ve missed and give me some suggestions.

  • Hunt For Red October
  • Dick Tracy
  • Flatliners
